Hi all, not technical at all myself but just have a question as to what might be involved in a plumbing question.

We have a gas boiler which when on heats both radiators ( heating) and the hot water cylinder( taps etc).

However, we cannot turn on the boiler to heat hot water only ( aside from turning off radiators etc).

Its an old enough house ( 1981).

Just wondering what exactly would be involved in amending the system so that the boiler could be used to heat water only.

    thanks

Depends, but in general terms it involves bringing and additional pipe from the boiler to the hot press, installing zone valves to segregate hot water and heating and then a controller to let you switch each separately.

The level of work will vary greatly from house to house. But as a ballpark, it might cost in the region of €1,500.

Very worthwhile though in my opinion
