Vodafone Gigabox Alternative with VOIP

    Hello.

Recently got Vodafone ftth (500mb) but I'm finding their router not great.

Speeds drop dramatically outside of the room it's installed in.

Is there a reasonably priced alternative?

I saw quite a few on Amazon but they don't seem to have an option to plug in my landline phone.

Would rather avoid investing in expensive Mesh extenders if a new router would do it.

    Thanks.

Do you have your phone line (VoIP) with Vodafone? If so, then its not possible to replace the Vodafone router as they have locked down the VoIP part of it and they won't give out the details.

    Hello.

Yes,my phone is with Vodafone, that's a bit sh1t that they won't give out the detail.

Looks like my only option is to invest in Mesh extenders so if I want to keep the phone.

    I swapped out my supplied router (hg659) for an ASUS mesh system (AX6600) ; I don’t use VOIP but it seems it does support it (I can’t guarantee it will work though). Connection wise it’s been bullet proof; I’ve 3 nodes due to bison slabs/steel in the upstairs floor;

The one problem I did have was I couldn’t get always connected (4g usb modem) to work with it. It might work now but I really only need the redundancy for work and using my phone as a hotspot does the same thing and limits the connection to me.

Just saw previous poster mentioned VOIP is locked down so guessing like always connected you might be out of luck ; however if you a mesh system behind the VF router it might improve things………

turn off Wi-Fi on VF router , connect your primary mesh node to the VF router, then all your devices other than VOIP would use the mesh. This would reduce a lot of the pressure on the VF router as it becomes a pass thru device (other than VoIP) and doesn’t need to deal with Wi-Fi, dhcp etc (as long as you know what you are at)

    Connect ONT to a swtich

Connect Vodafone Gigabox to switch for Vodafone VOIP

Connect your own router to the switch for everything else.

    Seems a relatively cheap solution,thanks.

So I could use an old switch I have and buy a half decent TP Link router?

I haven't done it with Vodafone VOIP so I can't guarantee that it will work with the phone service but what I have done is connect 2 Vodafone routers via a switch and both routers worked with a different public IP address. You could use an old switch as long as the service you have is the 500mb/s or 1gb/s service. If you have the 2gb/s service you'd need a more modern switch with a 2.5gb/s port.
