Does it cost money to keep this gas water thing on all day?

I turn this on for a shower then turn it off. It's a bit annoying. But I do it because I believe it's costing me money to leave it on.

    But I don't have a clue.

Does it cost money to leave the switch at the tap symbol all day? Marked in red.

The logic of the icons seems to be

    Boiler off = Boiler off

Tap icon = heats hot water on demand

Tap icon + Rad icon = heats hot water on demand + heats rads

So I would have thought that leaving it in the tap position wouldn't be costing you anything unless you have a shower or use hot water?

Wake me up when it's all over.

I see it's a combi boiler alright, so yep it's hot water on demand. Not the same as putting an immersion on.

Some combi boilers have a preheat function which does use gas to keep a small amount of water heated in the boiler to reduce wait time at the taps

The confusion might also come from older boilers which had a pilot flame which was left burning continuously, that's not done since the late 80's and other than what jumbone says, there isn't an inefficiency with leaving the boiler in a stand-by state.

And I would turn off that preheat function on the C301e as it's known to fire-up at odd times overnight.

Found the manual, your preheat function is controlled by a button under the screen so you can set that whichever way you like and the leave the dial turned to the tap icon
