Travel Insurance / Cancelation advice

I have a tour & flights booked for the end of October. Since booking I have injured my back and its not clearing up as fast as I'd like. I'm now begining to fear i might not be fit enough to go and may have to cancel. It is an active holiday and I would hope to participate fully. It would also be unfair to others on the trip if I was slowing everybody else down.

Would I need a doctors cert to cancel and claim back on insurance?

I'm still hoping I will be going but just seeing what my options are in the worst case senario. Any advice appreciated.

    BL

Nobody an answer that. It purely depends on the terms and small print of your policy. Who are you insured with and what is the name of the policy. It may be online.

Phone their claims line and see what they say, they are best positioned to let you know what they will want from you but also, when they would consider you unfit for the planned holiday as it is still 6 weeks away and as you say yourself, this is a worst case scenario right now.

You will be expected to mitigate the loss so look at options/costs to cancel/reschedule your holiday or activities as well.

Just had a cancellation claim paid by our travel insurance company and the Doctor needed to complete and sign the form. Go onto the company website and check the section 'make a claim' - all the info should be there. I rang the claim line a couple of times for information and they were very helpful

I’m commencing a claim myself for a short trip o was to take this week. Developed unexpectedly ted stomach problem the day before travel, woke up too unwell to travel. VHI Multitrip, solo travel Europe. Have to bring a form I was given to print out for my GP complete next week, when I’m seeing him about this issue. Had booked the trip with an online travel agent who made all arrangements & they sent me a cancellation invoice to forward with claim; it is particularly straightforward having done it through an agent as all arrangements have identical booking date & proof etc.

Thank you all for the replies.

I think i was looking at the glass half empty when I made the original post but I am very hopeful of being okay to travel and am planning as such. I've still got 5 weeks and i'm doing physio/exercise like never before!

Good to know some of you have had positive experiences with insurance companies. I will try and get all the relevent information together and have it ready if needed (or hopefully not).

    Thanks again for the replies
