I have a wooden (varnished hardwood) table and chairs to get ready for storage for the winter. They will just be covered with a canvas....

Should I apply some sort of preservative and if so what should I use.

    Thanks for info

What did you end up doing? I bought patio furniture this summer and don't know how to protect it during the winter.

Check Overstock maybe, i bought couple of good pieces from them in the past. You can have a look at Overstock reviews and see if that is something for you. Otherwise Ikea is always there for you , some people complaint about the quality, but their design is usually good.
