UFH System - Boiler always on problem

    Hi,

I recently completed a renovation in which we installed UFH heating downstairs which has been connected into the existing Gas boiler. The issue is when we power up the system the boiler automatically comes on sending heat to the upstair rads, despite none of the stats calling for heat. The system will call for heat to the relevant zones when the stat temp falls below the set temp, however the problem is that the boiler is already on and sending heat upstairs.

The previous heating system was 3 zone (downstairs, upstairs, and hot water) with 3 motorised valves.

In the new system we have a heatmiser wiring centre with 3 downstair zones, hot ware and an upstairs zone. Currently the downstairs UFH zones seem to work fine, but the problem again is just the boiler is always on when the system has power going to it.

The electrician who wired the system said it is something to do with the plumbing and that the system is always calling for heat.

    Any thoughts?

I'm afraid the electrician is fobbing you off unless there is something strange about your particular boiler.

    Is this a gas boiler?

    It is a gas boiler.

I am not sure if he is fobbing me off. The gas boiler has 3 EPH 2 Port valves (upstairs, downstairs, hot water) this was part of the original set up. There is now an additional Heatmiser wiring centre and valve that controls the UFH zones downstairs, stats are wireless.

When I use the stats to set the temperature they call the heat correctly and the relevant UFH zones come on, and for the upstairs rad the motorised valve switches on.

The issue is that by default when I turn the electric on the boiler fires up although none of the motorised valves switch on or the ufh system, but there is heat sent to the radiators upstairs.

I'm not sure what is actually telling the boiler to fire up?

The system was temporarily set up to just switch on when the boiler was powered up, at that point all UFH zones and hot water and upstairs received heat, but now it is partially working on zones.

Get your RGI to give it the once over. Try and find one that's familiar with your system.

So the electrician was playing around with it and it is working better now. The next problem seems to be as follows

The UFH wiring centre (3 zones) connects into the boiler via a two port valve, the downstairs zone. If I set the one of the UFH zones to on, it will switch the motorised valve on and the zone will get heat, the same happens for the other two zones.

However, when I switch the UFH zone off, it stays on and they only go off once all zones have met temperature.

i.e. the switch on invidually but can only switch off together.

    Thoughts?
