So a lot of people are still stuck in limbo with the vetting process? Says it cleared but it's been weeks and weeks now.

Only saw 1 or 2 here say it was about 4 weeks in total for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 JustSomeone3364

How long have you been waiting? I'm past the 12 week stage now 😑

I’m a CO with the hse at the minute and have gotten on really well with this competition. Will likely be offered in the coming weeks. I’m torn as to what to do - stay with the HSE or move?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 codeKrowe

If you're in the HSE CO role for a while, you'd be effectively restarting at the initial entry level.

yeah I know, just wanted to ask a few questions to someone working as a CO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 ashbpm

there was no mention of flexi in the HSE CO job description either but it’s in place

I'm in the same situation. I'd prefer to chat directly through private message though if that's OK. I'll send you a message.

Sorry my previous message is to ashbpm.

Any luck? I'm still waiting, still getting the same generic reply from any enquiries. 14 weeks and counting...

Anyone any updates on Sligo numbers been recently called? 😊

I'm 51 so I know I might not get called for ages but just wondering if anyone knows what number has been called recently.. Any help is appreciated 😊

I was called to the first round of interviews for Sligo and was successful getting a job offer. They're still in the process of garda vetting, so unless some of the others who have been offered positions turn them down, they might not call for interviews again for a while. I don't know how many got called to interview the first time; all I know is that at least 5 jobs were offered after the first round of interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 RoisinW92

@hairyprincess I haven't even got called for an interview yet so might not get called at all yet I'm not sure 🫣 unsure as to how many jobs they are offering...

I'm a high number so might not get called at all was just wondering what number they had gotten too with interviews and job offers :) thanks

Have you ever lived abroad? Wondering if that's why mine is taking so long. Or maybe there's just a build up of applications.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 JustSomeone3364

That's the main explanation I came up with as well, I've lived in 5 different countries.

However, I checked online for each country and none of the individual applications should take more than 2 weeks, so it still doesn't really account for the delay (currently 15 weeks).

Or it might be a backlog of applications, like you said.

Edit: I thought a language barrier might be partially responsible, but I just applied for and received (within 5 minutes) an English version of my (clean) criminal record for the non-English speaking country I lived in. So it's not that!

Hi everyone, I've just recently discovered this thread. I recently interviewed for the Dublin area and was offered a position pending vetting. When I got my offer I got a new OOM in the mid 30's. Has anyone been in a similar position and if so how long after clearing vetting where you then waiting for a start date? Could I be looking at months/ into next year would yous think?

Also I've only have 1 address my whole life does this usually mean the vetting process will be quicker than the quoted 10-12 weeks? Thanks for all the help!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 JustSomeone3364

My understanding is that starting with whoever received OoM 1 [post-interview], they will receive an email (when/if their Garda vetting is cleared) where they will be assigned a placement, start date, location. Once this is completed and accepted, the next highest OoM (assuming they have not removed themselves from the competition) will receive an email with the same information, and so on.

This means that if your OoM is (for example) 35, then 34 people need to have their Garda vetting completed, then consecutively be assigned a position, start date, location; decide to accept/reject the placement; reply with their decision.

Even though your Garda vetting might not take much time, you will still have to wait until they have dealt with everyone up to and including the person whose OoM is one less than yours.

Could be a long wait, but I'd imagine there are considerably more resources used for Dublin that others areas in the country.

Thanks so much for your response it was very helpful.

On another note does anyone know what the probationary period is in the civil service? Would one expect to be made permanent after 6 months or is it usually an extended 12 month process? Just curious as I'm on track to go for a mortgage in just under 12 months and I think this may delay me being able to apply.

Can you give a rough idea what you original OOM was?

For the benefit of anyone still waiting to be called for interview 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 Powerpuffgirl24

Yes of course! I was notified back in December that I was in the mid 60's OOM for the permanent Dublin positions. I then got called for interview the 1st week of May. The Interview took place a week later. Then I got the offer a week later, I accepted the same day and was then sent the link for vetting after that weekend. I completed the vetting application and have been notified today that the first phase of vetting is complete ( this took 1 week). Hope that helps! Best of luck.

Thank you, I appreciate you sharing that, have a great weekend 😊

I've just looked back over the information booklet and it's stated on page 11 as 12 months probationary period.

Anyone here Tipperary area?? Has anyone heard or gotten any job offers yet after successful interview? Trying to Sus how long this may take 🫣

I was a TCO about 7 years back in AGS up in Dublin but got offered a Permanent CO role and took it -I'm on the nationwide CO panel and i wish to go to AGS but its unlikely as the campaign i think ends this/next month - is the AGS campaign every two years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 enna17

If you are talking about the campaign that this thread is intended for, it runs for 2 years from commencement or until it is exhausted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Newbie12345The

Thanks - just found the booklet and says its 2 years - so september 2025. Thanks again!

    Hi all,

what would be the next step once Garda vetting is completed? Is there any amplitude test before you will be offered a position?

Aptitude tests were before interview, so as I understand - Aptitude test, result, interview, result, ,Garda vetting and job offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 JustSomeone3364

Application; aptitude tests (given an Order of Merit); invitation to interview (if successful enough in tests); interview; interview result (given a new Order of Merit); immediate job offer (if Order of Merit is sufficiently low); Garda vetting; reference check; contract signing; start.

    Hi all,

Just giving a timeline from my experience, I'm due to start the role very soon!

I'm in the area of Wexford, in the top 5 OOM -

    • Interviewed and received new OOM in December 2023
    • Offered role end of March 2024, Garda Vetting submitted at same time
    • Garda Vetting cleared at start of June
    • Reference checks completed 6 days after vetting cleared
    • Once reference checks were completed I was given a start date, location and sent my contract etc.

Best of luck to everyone, don't get disheartened if you're still waiting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 Justask123

can you please share your experience joining Garda Siochana.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 Powerpuffgirl24

    Hey all,

Does anyone have a rough idea of where they are up to on the OOM for placements for Dublin? As in the post garda vetting & offer OOM.

Also curious has anybody actually started in their position and if so how are you getting on / have you any feedback? And can you give a breakdown of what the total timeline of the process was.

    Thanks, have a good weekend!

19 weeks (4.5 months) since Garda Vetting application was sent, still no response.…

I'm in the same boat still, I did reach out an email and they said it just takes a long time. So we'll wait and see

I’m still waiting to hear about an interview for Carlow (top 5 OOM)

I’m assuming there’s still other counties that haven’t started the interview process yet too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 codeKrowe

    Another week gone, no updates

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭angel_wings

Hi all I haven't been active on here in a while due to almost giving up on this competition at this stage 🤨 but out if curiosity, has anyone from Wicklow been called yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 wanderingaround

I'm top 15 for Wicklow and so far, nothing at all. I've already given up on this 🤷‍♀️ I hope they are more efficient than this for other stuff!

Has anyone heard anything this week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 enna17

I was expecting that quite possibly nothing would be happening over the summer months, I've resigned myself to maybe not hearing anything until September or October.

I could be wrong though 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 codeKrowe

Nope - still waiting! - Could well be that it's the summer and it's causing even more delay with holidays maybe? I'm well past the initial 12 weeks vetting at this point now and all they've said is it's a long process

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭Highlighter75

So many obnoxious Gardai out there looking down their nose at admin staff. Steer clear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 JustSomeone3364

Summer tends to be a busy time for them: summer camp staff, sports clubs etc need quick Garda vetting, as well as staff starting in schools in September.

I've been waiting for vetting for over 5 months now, so my questions is whether it's ever going to come (or if it will come before the 2 year competition runs out).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 iliwysavo

have my interview tomorrow. Anyone have any last minute tips? Did they ask questions about the guards specifically (I had a county council interview recently and they asked if I knew how many councillors there were in my county)

    much appreciated!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Newbie12345The

Worked there before - most on the beat/new entrant gardai were fine, its the older/higher up generation - (not many of them to be fair )were a bit difficult

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭hairyprincess

why did you leave, if you don’t mind me asking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Newbie12345The

tco - got offered permanent elsewhere- woukd like to go back
