The posters I was replying to were suggesting that if Sky's Sky Sports prices were cheaper than they currently are over satellite then more people might avoid illegal streaming.

There is the option of cheaper than over satellite and it's NOW.

No one needs to pay full price for Sky Sports over satellite when they can get it for much cheaper on NOW.

Now would only be a viable alternative if sky had all the games. The cost for soccer isn't just the cost of sky, it's TNT plus premier sports plus Amazon a couple of times a year. Even at that you may miss games from your team. Especially if you don't follow Liverpool or man utd. Even.of you do, you're missing a few games a season.

The offering in other countries more often than not is all the games on one service at a lower price.

I don't really care what they do in the UK, but I'd love if Ireland was treated as an independent country with separate broadcasting rules and deals. The market here is so small, smaller than greater Manchester almost, and wouldn't be subject to their rules on monopoly or timing restrictions (like premier sports). One online provider in Ireland would be a dream scenario.

In the lead up to the EPL ITV had the rights to broadcast 18 league games a season.

    Yes 18

At the time there were as many as 22 teams in the top flight so that was 42 game weeks.

So you were getting a game every two plus weeks on average.

They also had the rights to League Cup semi finals and final, so that's another 5 games as the semi finals are two legged.

BBC had rights to FA Cup from 3rd round, so if you include maybe a replay per round that was about 12 games.

So domestic football in England had about 35 live TV games a year.

The first year of the EPL gave you 60 live league games, and now that is up to 215.

So you are correct, from 18 to 215 is a lot more.

And there has been a huge increase in FTA football also.

The European Cup changed to the Champions League around the same time and brought a lot more football to FTA TV in Ireland.

This is exactly what has to happen.

Its been pointed out several times in the last few pages that Now TV doesn't have all the matches. Not sure why it's not sinking in.

Stick has all the latest games, all the latest films, and all your favourites, all the latest series and all your favourites, all the news channels all the terrestrial channels- why would you pay €150 + a month for that when you can get the same service for much cheaper?
Im asking for a friend as I’m not sure of the answer myself?
