    Hi all,

I have a small veg patch (50sqm) and I am wondering if cover crops is a good idea.

Have anyone tried it? What cover crop did you use?

I have slugs (a lot and I can’t control them as they come from nearby gardens.. so I need something that is slug resistant.

    Thanks

I've grown various types of winter cover in the past - field beans, clover, some sort of mustard - but I don't bother any more because they mostly turned into weed infested messes that created extra work. I cover any empty bits of the veg. garden with homemade compost/grass clippings/fallen leaves; this keeps the weeds under control and the worms love it. I have a huge slug problem but they seem to be less active in the winter so if you do grow cover crops they will probably be fine.

Thanks. The main goal was to avoid weeds so if if it doesn’t reduce them, I am not going to waste money.
