Weird engine sound after replacing timing belt, fan belt and fan tensioner

    Hi,

I just had the timing belt & waterpump, fan belt and fan tensioner changed by a Peugeot main dealer, however I noticed that the car started making a weird sound which was not there before.

Here is the link https://sndup.net/xq7f/ (it starts from 0:04).

Does anyone know if this sound is normal after changing the belts and tensioner, or should I bring the car back to them tomorrow?

    Thanks!

    Bring it back for sure.

It could very well be related to the belt job. Does kinda sound belt related. Could be a failing idler pulley or something like that.

    Thanks.

The funny thing is that they called me saying that they recommend changing the fan belt tensioner as it was "noisy" (even though I have never heard any noise before), and now after changing it I hear the above noise.

If anyone else has any thoughts on this engine noise, please let me know!

Just back from the main dealer. The service manager listened to the sound and said that it was a normal sound for the running belts. The sound was not as loud as yesterday but it was still there.

We took the car for a test drive and he said given that there is no noise when driving the car, there is nothing that can be done as all seemed normal. If something was wrong, we would hear the noise when driving the car.

Here is a recording of how it sounds this morning: http://sndup.net/ns92

    Curious to hear your thoughts.

Get an opinion from an independent third party.

Not much you can do if it's running normally. Maybe one of the belts were a different brand and needed to bed in a little. Maybe over tensioned or under tensioned a belt. I assume the work is warranted.

What do you mean by that?

    Guaranteed

Yes, it is as it's done by an authorized Peugeot dealer using genuine parts. So I guess I just wait and see if the sound will go away or gets worse before deciding whether to take the car back to the dealer again or not. I wanted to make sure that it is brought to their attention as this is a result of the work done by them, so that later they don't say that it is unrelated.

Put it in writing to them that you are reported a noise immediately after belt replacement.

These things don't tend to get better.

Yes, I did that by sending them an email this morning, with the first audio clip as an attachment. I also mentioned in the email that they checked the noise and told be that it was normal. They also acknowledged the receipt of the email.

I just wanted to add that belt sound is still the same as yesterday ( http://sndup.net/ns92 ) , however it goes away when accelerating.

    Leave it at that then.

If the worst happened and you have a complete failure of the timing belt due to bad pulley or tensioner or whatever you would surely be covered by warranty and also having notified them.

If the noise was another pulley related to auxiliary belt, it shouldn't be a huge issue to sort.
