Lack of statutory inquiry into Ferns diocese abuse scandal.

    Although the Ferns diocese abuse scandal became public knowledge 21 years ago, I've started this thread on it because the fact that the inquiry into the scandal was non-statutory reminds me of the decision to hold a non-statutory inquiry into the heinous crimes that were committed by the murderous nurse Lucy Letby.

    Why did the government not hold a statutory inquiry into the Ferns abuse scandal? The reason I ask that question is that Bishop Brendan Comiskey was never ordered to explain his failure to help the children who were sexually abused by some priests in the diocese.
