    Following this discussion with interest.

I have a secured back garden with walls 2m tall and locked gates.

I leave my dog to freely roam safely in the knowledge that they cannot get out.

My neighbors' cat comes to visit and my dog sends them to the great cattery in the sky.

My neighbour is a tad upset.

What is any duty of care had I in this scenario.

Speaking as a dog lover, and a cat lover, (I currently have two cats) - none.

If someone allows their cat to roam, then they have to accept the possibility that something like this could happen.

It's the risk the cat owner has to accept, or else keep their cats confined to either a catio, a cat-proofed garden, or as an indoor cat only.

I had a dog that stuck its nose a little too far into a group of mother cats with very young kittens.

The dog was pursued and brought to the ground by about 5 cats and I had to take a stick to them to save the dog from serious harm.

Dogs have more protection in law than cats I understand ,but I guess even cats cannot be abused as some people have done for their sadistic amusement and will doubtless continue to do so.

Actually, I received a bite from a sheepdog the other day when I had to take my small malshi in my arms as we were walking past since he is a bit aggressive/antisocial.

I had to inform the owner later what had happened and it was a shame as the dog will now have to be kept locked up since he may do it again .
