    (Previous outing link: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058306691/boards-golf-society-2023-round-7-bunclody-12th-august-1-10pm/p1)

The final round is approaching, and hopefully, we'll enjoy some craic afterwards, leading to a fun-filled weekend all around. Entry is €50, and you can pay through the usual methods on ClubNet. Though I've never played at Mahony's Point course before, but its stunning location in what is arguably the most beautiful county of the most beautiful country in the world leaves little room for error and I'm really looking forward to this! For this event, we'll follow a competition format, with tee times scheduled in reverse order of the GOTY leaderboard, placing the leaders in the last group.

We'll get the timesheet up during the week. When booking this just pick any available time and we will control the assigning of tee times to match your place on the Leaderboard.

(A number of people have committed to playing a warm up round the day before on Friday at the Kileen Course also in Killarney. I will put out a post later about that but for now we'll keep organisation for that separate)

Congratulations and well done on a stunning year Captain.

You handled everything thrown at you with grace and aplomb. Hard to believe we are at the business end of the season already. Plenty of calculations being done around the Country regarding whats needed to win GOTY/ making The Jug team, or just the honour of winning Captain's prize.

This will be a short hop over the border for me, by far the shortest trip of the whole year at just over an hour in comparison to Slieve Russell which was 3.45.

Looking forward to it already. Always a great craic at Captain's and you couldn't have picked a better town for that craic.

Thanks Break80. I'm grateful that I didn't have to manage through the pandemic as you did during your captaincy. Your dedication and the mileage driven each year are a true testament to your commitment to the society!

Clubnet is open for bookings now.

@RoadRunner Are we reducing amount of top up as per last year?

I only need a tenner but have to top up by 100 yoyo

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Only an hour drive for this one! I won't know what to do with myself 🤣

I'd also love if we could reduce it for this round, as i'm €3 short.

The minimum topup has been reduced to €50 for this one. This change should be active now.

@RoadRunner thanks a million for the updates. Just booked in there.

It has been a fantastic year of golf in the society and a mighty job done by yourself over the last number of months. Cannot wait for a cracker of a weekend in Killarney 👍👍

Booked in there (fittingly in the earliest slot, if the top of the table go out last!). Looking forward to it, and cheers to Roadrunner for organising (and others for helping).

I presume any money leftover in the purse carries over to next year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,118 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

    Yes it carries over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it. Sorry @RoadRunner, was very much looking forward to it. I had accepted on the survey and thread.

Just got the trophy back from the engravers too. @Seve OB, maybe we can arrange you getting the trophy off me in the next week or two?

Was so looking forward to two rounds in two days at courses I hadn't played before. Was at the Irish Open there in 2011/12, saw Simon Dyson lift the trophy - not the most exciting winner in Irish Open history! Course looked stunning, in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

Best of luck everyone, looking forward to the GOTY updates and Ryder Jug final standings.

The year has really flown round when we are onto Captains already!! This is a great course on a great piece of property with stunning views. I played the 2 courses with a few friends 2 years ago and it’s a great resort with a nice halfway house going around to stop for a quick drink or bite to eat ( very dangerous).

Great choice for captains @RoadRunner and a nice to finish to a great year of new courses again.

Irish coffees are my winter-warmer of choice. It may be too early still, but we'll see 🤣

(side quest) The Trevino Touch 1-Iron Invitational

Lee Trevino's remark that most sticks out in my head was a cheeky gaffe about when you get caught on a course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, "hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron."

In the spirit of this iconic statement, I'm excited to present a unique fun challenge before your round begins on Saturday. Entry is free and is open to all society members or registered deities seeking to prove Trevino wrong.

Before your round begins please present yourself to the driving range. A few balls will be provided for quick warmup and then we'll be employing state-of-the-art technology to measure both the precision of your strike and the accuracy of your shot with the notorious bladed 1-iron to determine the winner. This comp isn't just about wielding the 1-iron, but mastering it to determine who will conquer the one club that even the gods hesitate to swing!

Good read back and great to see 90% or more of the names still attending the outings.

I haven't a hope of launching this - but will give it a crack. Sounds a good laugh.

All, I have just rejigged the timesheet into running order for GOTY. I haven’t sent email reminders as I suspect it may change a bit between now and the weekend.

if there are any specific requirements drop me a pm or text please and I’ll change, otherwise I will finalise on Wednesday and send update to your email

Hi All, thankfully due to assistance from GolfGraffix, A Post Punk and others I will be making a guest appearance at the year end marquee event. Looking forward to seeing all those familiar faces as well as some new ones, congrats to RoadRunner on a succesful year of captaincy.

See you all Saturday - O'Mahony's Point is a treat and has a great finishing hole!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,979 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

Great to have a familiar face back! Now, in saying that, don't go and just bloody win the thing on your first outing back 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 667 ✭✭✭bakerbhoy

    Two tier (severe) green.

11th index 1 also has it. Massive green.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,979 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

Here's a list of who I currently have for the Friday warmup.

I've also setup a whatsapp group to help serve as our command center for last-minute updates and as a platform to facilitate insults between society members. If you planning to participate and want to be in on the chat group let me know. Honestly though, you're probably better out than in on this one😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,118 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

i thanked your post but i probably shouldn't have 🤣

Made an attempt at some permutations, just covering the players who can still win, and only based on what needs to happen if they actually win the Captains prize to also win GOTY.

    Ballyk:

    Win Captains, wins GOTY

    Bakerbhoy:

Win Captains, wins GOTY if ballyk finishes 3rd or worse

    VW1:

Win Captains, wins GOTY if ballyk 6th or worse, and bakerbhoy 4th or worse

    Pakman:

Win Captains, wins GOTY if ballyk 6th or worse and bakerbhoy 4th or worse

    Slave1: same as Pakman

    Seve OB:

Win Captains, wins GOTY if ballyk 7th or worse and bakerbhoy 5th or worse

    Kiith:

Win Captains, wins GOTY if ballyk worse than 9th, bakerbhoy 7th or worse, vw1,pakman, slave1 all 4th or worse, seve ob 3rd or worse

    Spacecoyote: same as Kiith

    Bobster453: same as Kiith

Lads, something came up and I can't make Saturday. It's very late notice so I understand i have to forfeit my green fee.

I'll still be able to head down on the Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,118 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

No hassle @doublecross . Sometimes life gets in the way. Hope all good and sure we’ll see you tomorrow anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 860 ✭✭✭bobster453

So all I need is to win Captains prize then to win GOTY as yez will all be too seedy to play well Saturday🍺🍺🍺

Technically you can win it finishing 2nd, and the other numbers all shift, I didn't run those numbers, so you have a massive cushion of a top 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pakman

Some weird numbers at the bottom to ignore but I added to the sheet shared on other post. If you select your name in the dropdown at top you will see what place everyone has to finish to beat you. Doesn't take into account both finishing in same spot because I got tired working on it. Every column represents your finishing place and the standings. I think its done correctly 😬
