Fingers toes and all wobbly bits crossed. Would be a proper shake up of the market here if they applied the same model as the UK.

We sorta get a variable rate with waterpower but not really.

I'm all for a proper variable rate though. Would try it for sure anyway.

Also would really have to tighten up my automations.

It appears to be this "We are looking for a talented individual to take on the Head of Risk & Compliance position for our AIFM in Ireland. In this role, you will be the designated person to the Central Bank of Ireland for Operational Risk, Fund Risk and Regulatory Compliance." Not sure if that will be a start to entering the market here or not though. I hope it is but the sceptic in me says no.

Wow, that would be fantastic news. I'd sign up for an agile type variable rate the second I get a smart meter!

With a bit of working the system, that could mean a zero total energy bill for the year for me, including heating, hot water, all electricity use in the house and 2 EVs

Possibly or getting the road ahead ready for a move into the market. I reckon if they were there would be more noise about it though.

I think you're right, but it makes sense they'd get in on the more profitable investment side first before setting up a supply company

    "Hi unkel

Thank you for your email and for your interest in Octopus Energy. We appreciate your support and enthusiasm for our services.

We are constantly expanding our services and exploring new markets, and we are pleased to hear that you are interested in our agile tariffs. However, at this time, we do not have any plans to offer services in Ireland.

We will keep your details on file and will contact you if we do decide to expand our services to Ireland in the future. In the meantime, please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for any updates.

Thank you again for your interest in Octopus Energy."

That's through the helpdesk though. They might not be aware of any of those high level management plans and have this as a standard answer. Or perhaps either the company has a flat open structure and it is known what the strategy is. Or they did ask up the chain and there simply aren't any plans. In either cases, it's not looking good unfortunately...
