VW - Roof Rack Blacking Bolts and Leaks

    Hi all,

A quick question. Will the partial or full removal of the roof rack blanking bolts on a modern (2022) VW van result in any water ingress into the cab or any issue with water leaks?

Context: I need an awning rail, but I am not in a position to do it "properly". I intend to modify the Olpro magnetic awing rail (linked below) to be secured by the three roof rack blanking bolts in the roof of the VW van or to use the bolts on the far side as guy rope points. I understand the magnetic awning rail is not the best approach but this is the limit which I need to work within.

In either approach, I would need to untighten the bolts enough so their gaskets do not seal the holes. Am I asking for water leaks here?

Any advice is appreciated, but please note that I cannot install a permanent awning rail. The solution has to be easily removable.
