    Hi All,

A site I’m on the data guys have ran some cat 6 on a tray with fire alarm cable,

I’m wondering if it’s in the regs or if it’s not recommended to do so ?

jumped onto the tray for approx 5m

    thanks

I think I've seen them on the same tray not sure on rules

Fire cable is screened and ELV and won't affect data

And 5m is a short distance

You wouldn't be tie wrapping them together obviously

You'd have width on the tray to keep them apart

There's rules on physical separation of ELV and LV wiring on a cable tray

There's also rules on circuits of safety services ie:fire

I don't think there's any rules in relation to segregation of fire and data

That's only the wiring rules , on big jobs there's more than rules at play , it simply may not be done that way

I use to see the fire and data wiring and trays every day, can't remember but I'd say they're probably on separate trays in the main

Generally speaking in industrial installations this is not permitted by client specifications and / or scope of work and / or contract requisition. Normally there is dedicated "LSS" (Life Safety Systems) containment for fire alarm and related LSS. Sometimes it is permitted to share cable tray / rack if a fillet is installed between CAT6 and the fire alarm cables.

Either way, best practice would be to keep them separate.
