    Toyota

E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Toyota European petrol models made from January 1998, excluding:

    • Avensis 2.0 litre with engine 1AZ-FSE made between July 2000 and October 2008.
    • Avensis 2.4 litre with engine 2AZ-FSE made between June 2003 and October 2008.

Handy site for Checking as alot of older Irish cars have come from the UK or are a similar model here

I saw a 1997 car on the road today. Driving away. I think it was a Honda.

    Don't worry about E10.

E5 was only E3, and E10 will only be E6, due to double counting.

Double counting is where the value of the bio content is doubled as it is on its 2nd use.

Are you sure about that 6% figure?

Looking at buying 08 Avensis with direct injection (high pressure) engine code 1AZ-FSE.

This engine is not certified to be able to use E10,

If the E10 here is really 6% I might chance it?

I thought it would be, as previously e5 was only 3%

But from my simple tests, all petrol here is showing as 8 to 9% ethanol

Saw a UK lawnmower repair guy on YouTube separating the ethanol out of petrol with a homemade jig. Came out at 10% ethanol. Granted, it wasn’t scientific equipment he was using but it was so close that it didn’t really matter.

    Thanks for that.

It appears in the UK the 'premium' petrol is E5 plus whatever additives to make it premium and is OK for these engines.

As the issue also affects older VW FSI engines (plus engines from other makers) I was hoping the 'premium' fuels here are still E5+ like the UK…

Surely we would have heard about post-E10 issues here with those many direct injection engines which are incompatible?

I wonder if it's an octane issue and if an additive would work.

I don't mind either the extra expense of an additive or using 'premium' as long as it doesn't FUBAR the engine! 😀

    I'll do some further research!

I remove the ethanol for my classic cars as they spend most of their time sitting.

the first couple of times I used measuring jugs out of curiosity.

The ethanol content of the e10 I use is 6-7%.
