Hi all

I've cancelled my insurance with AIG prematurely after six months due to lack of option to add my son to insurance as he have only provisional driving licence.

I received letter from AIG with my insurance details (car reg, insurance number, dates etc) with information about no claims under it during.

I'm trying to insure my car for a week now with Zurich, Allianz, GetSetGo and I'm hitting a wall.

All of them asking for NCB cert from previous insurer (for last six months). I've spend couple of hours on the calls already with AIG including supervisor etc and I've been told that NCB cert is only sent after one year of insurance.

I even went around to one of above insurance companies and asked if they would give me NCB cert after 6 months - I've been told no.

So my problem is that Allianz, Zurich etc asking for something which can't be produced and also admitting they wouldn't give me the same document.

Do anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue ? Where I could escalate this ?

I've been told that my previous NCB cert which dates from Jan 2022 to Jan 2023 isn't valid anymore as it was "used" to insure my car already from Jan to June this year.

You are entitled to a letter (not a NCB cert) stating that you were insured from A to B, claim free. You add this to your previous NCB cert and it should satisfy insurers

If you're specifically asking for a NCB cert you won't get one - they are annual

You need to ask for a letter confirming that there were no claims during the period.

The difference is the increment in years that a NCB cert provides.

Just use the previous years, it’s valid for 2 years if you have no insurance

From experience, once insurance companies hear the word ‘cancelled’ they get very particular.

We had cancelled one of our policies as we had sold the car but still needed a letter indicating that we had no claims during the period and that we had cancelled the policy, rather than the insurance company.

I would suggest you go online and insure the car using the details of the previous insurance and fill in whatever details required to obtain quote.

What happened in my case is i did all of this and a few weeks i was asked for proof was within 2 years which i provided and all ok.

The car was insured but if i had not produced the proof it would have cost considerably more.

Leave the 6 months out of the conversation as they will think you a messer.

Do you know how many people ditch car insurance halfway during their policy? And you think that as the insurance company cannot provide a no claims certificate due to your specific issue that this is a reason why "sooo many drivers are driving without insurance."

As you are doing something that is not programmed into their algorithm you need to deal direct with a person. EG, call into an axa office, call into a FBD office or simply get a broker.

Yes but that letter is worthless a the end as it isn't NCB cert. And to get this letter is hassle as well. So courtesy as Dav010 said.

This is illegal due to fact that I HAD insurance after that.

In case of any claim or incident current insurer would cancel my insurance in a heartbeat.

Agree agents have their scripts etc etc and will not go out of the box with their thinking.

I think NCB cert is valid for two years.

So at the end what happened is.

After escalating to supervisor/manager on both AIG and Getsetgo the latter suggested that they could contact with AIG in my behalf if AIG agrees.

Agent didn't agreed to that but their supervisor did and looks like they had a chat and reached an agreement as now my insurance is almost in green.

All I need to do now is to install some kind of black box to monitor my driving style and millage and then all be good.
