Solar, Tesla, and Wallbox

Still figuring out logic or best way to set things up.

Wallbox and TESLA have scheduling options, but I don't want these two control points contradicting or confusing things. Which do I use?

I heave a day night meter. It is not smart so no incentive to send to grid.

My objective is to use green energy / solar during the day when it's surplus. I think I want to avoid all import during day hours.

If I schedule at night that seems to block surplus solar KW getting into car?

Do I use wall box app or Tesla or both?

    😎

For Wallbox, do you ahve it in eco mode, do you have the right power meter to support bididirectional detection? It's also compatible with home assistant, so that's how I have mine playing with the solar. (getting the right power meter installed was more hassle)

Everything seems to be compatible with home assistant now, except me:)

So, I think, I have it working now after a quick call with the installer.

    1. Have no schedule/limit on car.
    2. Full green mode on - this means Wallbox will only use surplus green energy. The surplus must be a min of about 1.2KW.
    3. Schedule a period overnight you want to charge. A hard schedule time will over rule the green-only general setting, drawing from grid.

This time of year I expect 2 hours at night, with surplus topping up at night should cover my needs, maybe even less.

Same functionality as a Zappi so by spunds of it. Zappi ramps up and down incredibly quickly for solar excess. Interesting to see how your brand behaves.

What was supply and install price before the charger grant? Good to know there is a solar aware alternative

Great to see some discussion of chargers for solar excess besides zappi.

From what I can see, many installers are advertising only zappi as an option for solar.

I think it is perceived that wallbox is harder to setup, maybe isn't quite as polished in this respect.

@Tree could you give more detail, is HA telling wallbox when and how much to charge?

I'm using the build in Wallbox addon, and using a variation on https://community.home-assistant.io/t/wallbox-pulsar-plus-integration/200339/342 to manage it.

The solar is on HA too, so I'm having it detect if there's draw from the battery and ramp down until it's been drawing from the battery for 5 mins. I've a schedule for Saturdays, so it's not always on, but if there's excess solar then HA will turn it on. Got over night boost button set up too. I had the wallbox bought long before the solar was installed, all the installers just push Zappi for solar, even though wallbox should work (and looks better tbh).

Pretty cool, I have Easee charger and have similar automations in HA, my dashboard is not as sexy as that thou.

HA sounds amazing. But I imagine takes many days and weeks to learn for a newbie. Not for me at the moment.

today wallbox wouldn't connect to WiFi or find any network (5-6 should be visible). Turned it on and off using isolator switch. Sorted.

for the moment I'm taking a relaxed attitude to all this. dont have cashflow for any charger install so am just happy to be charging from approx 50% solar overall with the granny charger. Whatever I'm buying from the grid for the car is far far less than the previous spend on petrol.

If anyone has a 6 amp granny charger let me know!
