Redundancy confusion

    Hi there,

I run a small business as a sole trader.

It was my father's business technically but he passed away last year.

Now there's a new trading name but same employees.

We want to close the business at the end of this year but one lady - who remains an employee - was on my dad's books since the 90s.

As an excellent servant we want to honour her loyalty and dedication over the past two-and-a-bit decades but it's difficult to figure out how much she is entitled to, as her hours haven't been consistently the same over the entire employment so the redundancy calculator isn't accurate.

If anyone has any ideas it'd be really helpful.

    Thanks!

Speak to an employment lawyer to confirm your liability.

You may choose to do more than that for her, eg pay her out as if she was full time - but you need professional advice about the implications of this.
