Just got an offer, not happy with the department and it's 6 months minimum before I can work from home. Can you ask for somewhere else?

For people lucky enough to get job offers, what is the WFH policy in your department?

DSP, can apply to WFH after 6 months and might be granted after 9 months

Yes, you can but it depends on what section you are in, it's not the same across the board. Where I am is a 5 day fortnight WFH, 2 days one week, 3 days the following week, fixed days.

I’m DOJ and in my department you get 3 days WFH and can apply after 6 weeks

Didn't find out until 2 hours into induction day itself where I was going.

Don't be worried if you end up in the IPO, I've heard many people have concerns but I've been there for 2 years and really enjoy it, great group of colleagues and interesting work.

I think it's crazy that you have to complete all the checks and references and stuff and only at the very last second you find out what your job is going to be. You're essentially blind-applying for a job, because different departments can be wildly different.

It is crazy. But the attitude is that all CO/EO grade staff are very much generalists. You are employed to follow a set of procedures as part of the civil service machine, and expected to spit out the same results as your colleagues of the same grade. There will be very little point in trying to swim against the tide and come up with ideas that you can make things faster/better, as you will end up full of frustration.

I do mostly agree with you in terms of the work, I think my biggest issue is the WFH situation.

Blind-applying for a job that has a random chance of being on-site, hybrid or remote is just super difficult. There's such a variance, and getting to the end of a long process only to discover the WFH options don't work for you is just cruel. :/

Has anyone here applied for the Shorter Working Year (particularly in Social Protection)?

I'd love to take some time off to do travelling and other bits, but I'm wary that parents probably get priority for SWY. Also, given the front office nature of Social Protection… is it hard to get requests granted? I know there are more restrictions for this department.

After almost 8 years in the PS I still ain't used to it but have to accept that in general the grade is the job not the specific things you do it's crazy but if you want to be in the Public Sector you have to accept it.

They aren't allowed to discriminate in favour of people with children.

Hi Did any one here take up job with the Revenue Commissioners .

I'm.on the 2024 panel for E0 and filled in an expression of interest for the Revenue Commissioners . I,ve huge experience in customer service ,but not great with numbers . I'm.imagining that's ok as I passsed numerical reasoning and also everything is done on PC so I'm imagining attention to.detail more important .I have heard the learning and development available there great and that they are very progressive .

If anyone can answer this that would be great .

i have a friend who I think would like the role but he's not willing to do 6 months onsite when other positions are likely WFH straight away. It's a shame, they'll miss people for that reason

Does anyone know if you skip a scale in the EO wages the way you do in the CO pay scale - you skip 3 and go straight to scale 4 of CO 🤔🤔🤔
