First time posting here . I emigrated to New York thirty years ago and it’s shocking to see that nobody seems to be paying any attention to this terrible report that just got published. Over thirty elderly women were sexually assaulted/raped in one nursing home over the past ten years and there seems to be little or no public outcry. Also since the rapist targeted women with Alzheimer’s I think the true numbers could be much higher .

This is one of the worst crimes I have ever heard of anywhere and the fact that most Irish people seem to be just ignoring this imo deeply shocking and disturbing .

The Rapist only received 11 years in jail. The serial Rapist in this case should have received the 10 year maximum sentence for the sexual assault of a mentally impaired person BEFORE a rape charge was considered by the judge. Then, add a consecutive sentence of a minimum 15 years for the rape.

“The muted public reaction to the rape of an elderly woman in a nursing home raises questions around Irish attitudes to older people, a leading social work expert has said.”

HSE chief executive Bernard Gloster, has confirmed the report found that up to 30 other assaults are alleged to have taken place at the home, many involving the same healthcare worker.
