What's the story with the shock as 650 workers were temporarily laid off at Tara Mines!

The shock is that the workers first found out on the news.

That was the first I heard of it. But it looks like the "Meath Chronicle" broke the news a month ago.

Apparently Tara Mines told the government this would have to happen if soaring energy bills could not be reduced.

I remember reading that they said the future was in doubt if they didn't get the energy bill help from the Government. I guess this is the outcome of that.

So the Government as usual are dragging their heels, they will probably set up a committee to look at future options and re-training for employee's!

There is another angle to this story besides the energy costs.

Recently Tara Mines were drilling test holes at deep depths and caused very serious flooding & drop in water levels in Navan & surrounding areas.

The official report came out very critical of Tara Mines & recommends caution before proceeding with this new deep drilling.

The mine isn’t viable without this new deep exploration & based on the flooding issues government bodies are likely to block development.

That's all it is, Green nutters trying to close everything down, same as the Cork oil field he decided they need 4 times the money in the bank as needed to develop the well

If you were building a house for 250k and the council insisted you needed 1 Million in the bank nobody would queati0n if it was suggested they were corrupt and biased

No mine is viable if it's flooded. They no more want water moving from where it currently is than anyone else does

Think about this, water pumping costs, they absolutely do not want to have that develop and have to pay on a continuous basis
