Car key fix

Hi all,

can anyone recommend somewhere to get a car key repaired in south dublin please?

It’s for a 2011 Vauxhall insignia- flip type key. The actual “bar” of the key has come away from the hinge.

I’ve been quoted €80 to pop the bar back into the hinge!

Is this the going rate? Seems very expensive.

Yeah rang them and they’re quoting at least €80!

All I need is a little metal pin.

Think some diy might be called for here 😅

If its just the little roll pin thats need - 81926-G3000 or 81926-2L000 - Hyundai retaining pins for a flip out key will sort you out. I used them all the time to repair Opel keys.

Just make sure the actual flip out part isnt broken because they usually are cracked and cant be repaired.

€80 is usually a recase - cheaper than 280 for a new key from OPel.

I’ve actually repaired it using a matchstick 🤦‍♂️.

It’s holding up fine for the moment though and showing no signs of coming apart!

Fair play. Order one of those pins online for a couple of euro and swap it out for the matchstick.

Ebay/amazon has keys with a blank bar for around e20 you can swap all the bits or swap the circut board and get a lock smith to cut the blank bar

Lol yeah proud of it- right until I’m out somewhere and realise the bar has gone missing off the key case 😱

Find a wooden clothes peg, remove the little metal part and use that to hold them together. A small tap on each end will lock it in.

That’s a good idea- I was thinking of using the bar off an old watch strap but I like the clothes peg idea.
