Bad smelling Sludge in Well Water Treatment

    Hi,

We have one of the resin water treatments which flushes itself out using brine from a salt container. Every few months the salt container starts to smell quite bad and has a brown sludge. I emptied it out and washed the last time but it's back again and kids are complaining about the taste of the water. Any idea what it could be ? When the system was put in first (2 years ago ) the switch on the pump was stuck and it ran 24 x 7 for about 6 weeks at the bottom of the well churning dirt up. Could this have clogged up the resin ? Is it easy to change the resin ?

One other query - one of the kids is studying chemical engineering & she reckons there should be a particle filter beween the well and the ion exchange resin filter. Should I put one in if the problem is dirt coming from well ?

    Thanks
