2012 Fiesta Catalytic converter

Hey folks. A family member has a 2012 petrol fiesta. The check engine light is on showing a catalytic converter fault, mechanic says it’ll likely need to be changed at some stage during the next 12 months. It passed the NCT recently with the light on.

Is there any way of getting these units reconditioned or of keeping the cost of repair down somehow?

She was going to keep the car for another 12 months and then sell it on but it’ll be hard to shift with the light on so would like to address it in the most economical way she can.
