LCA exams - is the school being honest?

My daughter is in LCA1 (5th year). Two weeks ago the school said she must sit the state exam in French this year - and only French. I have already made (expensive) family travel plans. The school says is it not possible to sit the French exam next year because the Irish exam is on next year. I don't understand this because the school website says all the state exams (beyond practicals) are at the end of LCA2 in 6th year. I consulted the school timetable before booking the trip. If there had been any indication of exams in June this year I would have checked again. And the state examination timetable clearly shows that Irish and French are on at different times. If the school doesn't want to teach French next year thar's fine, but why are they saying it's not possible to sit the exam? Yesterday I was told the only option is to fail French or 'find a doctor' who will give a sick cert. I am not lying to a doctor or asking a doctor to lie - is the school wrong here or am I missing something?

LCA do some of their exams at the end of 5th year. I do not know the details of your daughter's school, but I don't see the benefit for them in lying.
