Charged 30euro Government levy on credit card despite not having one for last 2 years

Why do bank of ireland persist on ravaging away my bank funds with spurious fees? Bad enough having 6euro maintainence fee coming out of my account every month despite me having requested no services at all.

But now a 30euro levy on a credit card that I neither have nor have used for 2 years? Despicable behavior.

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch with us here.

If you are a BOI credit card holder this government stamp duty would be applied annually. Please see more info provided in the link below.

e6 a month is a lot but I think normal these days. You pay the fee on opening the account regardless of how you use it.Has a family member used a card on the account

Zero fees on accounts with Revolt, N26 or Monese bank accounts.

I haven't had nor have requested a card in over 2 years. On looking at my account it shows that there was recently an unactivated card attached to my account. I want this shut off, I don't approve of any transactions relating to this.

I recieved over 60euro in interest on my transferwise account last month - a service I use constantly, and they pay me!

Just for transparency here - after 20 mins waiting on the phone I was told that because I didn't explicitly tell them to close the credit card account (despite it not being active) that they would keep charging the government levy indefinitely until I did.

When I told them to close it now, they said they would not be able to close it unless I paid them 52euro (30euro for 2022 government levy and 22euro for 2023 to date...)

    Blockchain can't come quick enough...
