Cap off outlet pipe to toilet

Looks like the cistern and base of this toilet are attached permanently with silicon to each other. Is that common? Anyway I'll have to remove the two together. What would be an effective way of capping the outlet while I renovate the bathroom? Is a 110mm push fit blanking cap the item I'm after? I tried diy solutions to stop the stink from the shower outlet but nothing worked like the cap I eventually bought for the job.

you can buy internal end caps that need a joiner to work or a combination internal /external one. they are not great at sealing unless you silicone them on.

if its only a temperory job for a week or 2 i would wrap some decent plastic over it and duct tape it on to seal it enough. it doesnt take much to block it. people often just shove a rag into it

jesus they are cheap. we have a few of them. they are great but they were something like 40-50 each a few years ago.

Might depend on the quality? The new ones are many stamped bits of steel but I used to have some that were solid brass apart from the rubber seal. In fact I bought one cheap one just for the seal to put on an old brass one although even the older rubber seals were better much fatter allowing for more compression.

While there is nothing I like to talk more about than drains back to the OP. I suggest changing the pipe adapter that connects the toilet to the pan when the toilet is put back. I'd use something like this (only using Amazon as its easy to link to). The seals tend to loose flexibility over time so don't always create a perfect seal when reused.

Plastic bag should be fine but a 110mm straight coupler + 110mm end cap can probably be bought for less than €10 total
