Painting a storage heater

An old storage heater has some bad blemishes on the top part that Id like to paint. Its two tone but the rest of it is ok. Ina few places the paint has come away.

My intention is to treat it with metal paint stripper, having turned it off for a week or so, give the metal a very light scratch with sand paper and then paint with heat resistant metal/radiator paint.

    Tips or observations appreciated.
