NCT Question - Hand brake light in car not lighting !

OK so wife 04 Yaris the speedometer display started acting up - flickering numbers, then going totally off. Would work for an hour or so then act up and then go totally off.

So today I managed to get a replacement display from a car dismantlers and fitted it myself. All is fine except one thing the hand brake red light is not lighting up when the hand brake is applied.

Question - would this be an NCT fail? The handbrake is working as it should be and this is just a visual sign that it is applied nothing else

Any chance it might be dirty electrical contacts on the back of the new unit?

No it is definitely the speedometer display head - There was a burnt out wire on the unit i bought, I have soldered that and I have the handbrake light active again!

Nice, good result. It’s a great skill to be handy with the soldering iron. Good luck with the NCT, The MK 1 Yaris is becoming thin on the ground, glad to hear you’re keeping your one going.

Nice work. If you paid a good few quid for the salvage display you should get back onto the dismantlers and ask for a partial refund for the defect. They might say no, but if you don't ask, you don't get. Good luck with the NCT. 👍️

Paid €40 for the unit - seems to be the going price for such items
