New Printer Recommendations

My current printer seems to have a problem with the blank ink cartridge having burst inside the housing. Not sure how or why this happened. I think it was seated correctly, but maybe not.

I think the device is not worth the effort to clean.

I need something that can scan, copy and print. Would like something compact too. Computer is running 64bit Win10 on i5-4590T with 8.0GB RAM.

Suggestions? Got a few 364XL cartridges here if that helps sway opinions, but not fussed on brand. Cost of replacement cartridges is more important to me.

Just been reading up on HP printers and it seems that they can now lock your printer if you use ink from other vendors. I'd like to avoid those handcuffs - who doesn't do that?

I've been looking at some of these "tank" systems, which do away with cartridges altogether. Epsom have EcoTank and HP Smart Tank. Be sure to check the reviews though.

Thanks - those look like a good idea, but out of my budget unfortunately. It's very light usage here, so was hoping for something in the sub £100 bracket that would cover scanning and copying too.

I know I'll be in cartridge territory at that money, but as long as I can get third party cartridges then I'll be happy.

I'd stick to Canon, Brother or Epson to avoid compatibility issues ala hp printers.

The Eco tank price range is beyond my needs.

Any recommendations - I'll be mostly using aftermarket cartridges? Getting lost in the maze of printers. I need an all-in-one, for light home use. As I'm used to a HP 3070A I would expect the quality of most printers on market at minute to be a step change from what I've just thrown into the skip.

Looked at the Canon PIXMA MG3650S on the Argos site as it seems most popular, but it doesn't have individual ink cartridges. I think that would be on of my few needs - individual ink cartridges.

Thoughts on these?

Genuine ink is around £100. Which is a rip off. aftermarket cartridges are still over £20 which is too dear for me.

There are loads of simple all in one printers out there.

Most can be had for not a lot of money, it's the ink they make the money on. The ink is often nearly the price of some of the units themselves.

I had a colour laser which broke, and I just went for a TS5150. Cheap, cheerful but does the job.

That is the problem. I want something that I can put non OEM cartridges into.

Non OEM cartridges are available for nearly every printer out there. I bought them for my laser, and just bought 2 for my TS5150.

But even buying compatibles, it's still expensive.

TS5150 here too. Maybe it's because I don't use it daily and have my expectations low - but I can't complain.

A lot of the Canon printers don't have individual ink cartridges which I don't like. I prefer to have individual cartridges per colour and replace them as they empty - rather than throwing out a a partially empty cartridge just because one colour has drained.

Recommendations?
