Motor tax refund

Put a year's tax on my car at the start of April but I'm now going to sell it and was wondering if it's possible to get either a refund on the unused term of the disc (May 23 to April 24) or possibly get it transferred to another car I'll be driving over the summer. The RF120 form seems to require the vehicle to be stolen, written off or exported? Is it only in cases like this, that you can avail of this facility?

(Yes, I realize I can just sell it with the year's tax on it and theoretically it should make it more saleable but in my experience, it counts for little. It's difficult to recoup it in the sale price and it'll sell just the same with a 3 month tax disk on it so I'd rather use the unused tax on another car which I need to put on the road.)

RF120 will also work if the car wasn't used in public since the disc was issued.

You can only get a refund if the car was never used in a public place from the date the disc was issued, or if the car has been scrapped (end of life cert required)

And even after all that you'll only get either 3, 6 or 9 months worth back.
