Solar Tubes Not Heating Water

    Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well.

I have been having an issue with Kingspan Solar Tubes for the last 2 years or so. They were only installed 7 years ago so the fact they have stopped working already is disappointing.

Basically, the tube's performance has degraded. While they do heat the water, they only heat it to a luke warm level, even last week when there was a lot of sunshine and the weather was rather warm.

I have a Kingspan SC400 control panel installed as well.

I have had a plumber look at them and he has performed a service and replaced the glycol but this hasn't seemed to have resolved the issue.

When I observe the control panel, the following happens. When the temperature on the Tubes on the roof goes 10 degrees above the temperature in the tank, the pump kicks in and starts heating the water in the tank. The pump may only run for 30 seconds or so before the temperature on the roof falls below the temperature in the tank again.

Last week, when the weather was good, I observed the temperature in the tank rise to about 32 degrees but never saw the temperature on the roof go above 40 or so. In my opinion, the temperature on the roof should have been a lot higher given the weather last week. So in a week or so, the entire time the pump was running was only about an hour. Today with the overcast weather, the temperature on the roof is only 6 degrees.

All help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

reduce the temperature difference from 10 down to 5 or 6 and see how that improves the system

I had the glycol changed in mine last October and I seem to have a similar issue . The temperature on the roof doesn’t seem th have reached 30 degrees c yet and the system has not worked this year .

On the sunniest day this year the roof temperatures struggle to reach high 20s
