I’m wondering what exactly the implications are if you tow with a Toyota hybrid ? They have very low limits but what exactly would or could happen if you tow more than the recommended limits ?

for example , a Corolla has a limit of 400kg but would anything happen if you tow more ?

    thanks

If you had something like a Land Rover with a towing limit of 3.5 tonnes, what do you think would happen if you tried towing 4.5 tonnes (or more) instead?

In there could lie your answer.

I read the title and first thing came to mind was that it would charge your battery, ie you were towing the corolla behind something, so now that I read it my answer is the same as above, towing a trailer over the limit you risk pulling the arse end out of the corolla or ruining engine/gearbox.

    401kg be probably ok.

    Seriously thought, how much more?

My reason for asking is that I was told by the Toyota dealer today that if I pull 750kg that it won’t cause any issues or problems. Hence , my question on this forum

    Taken from a Google search:

Max towing capacity should not be taken lightly. Exceeding what your vehicle is designed to tow can strain your engine and transmission, accelerate brake wear, damage your tires and even warp your chassis. This could in turn trigger catastrophic failure while driving and could lead to property damage or serious injury.

I would get what the dealer was telling you in writing then report to SIMI for the craic (it'll lead to nothing but may cause him a few issues)

It's fairly irresponsible advice to be giving.

Yes and that was why I asked cause I don’t think what he is saying is correct

It’s an unbraked limit of 450kg and a braked limit of 750kg.

If I remember right, The reason the older Prius’s couldn’t tow was to do with the regen system and the brakes.
