Buying next car advice

Hey all - so currently driving a Volkswagen Gold 2012 but the last year its beginning to cause more and more issues. Injector going in it recently.

For the last while Ive been wanting to upgrade anyways, likely will need a bigger car so just wondering have people any advice on makes/what to look for? Used Car prices seem to have gone through the roof. I still cant ever see myself going brand new.

So just wondering what makes should I look for? I initially was thinking something along the lines of a Ford Focus/Skoda. Had a budget in my head of about 15k and was hoping to get something around 2017 but prices have shocked me.

Also a friend of a friend is selling their Audi 15 2015. The mileage is high though at over 210k KM. Very tempted though as they are offering it at 10k as they need to a quick sell. Looking online most of these are up around 15k. Thinking if I fix my Golf and sell it for aroud 6-7k itd be a decent upgrade for the outlay (although my golf actually has lower mileage)

With WFH I typically drive maybe 150 - 200Km a week. And not too often on motorways if that makes a difference. No notion of going full electric though.

My original budget before I started looking at prices was around 15k.

A ford focus is about the same as a golf, do you mean more powerful or bigger in size?

What kind of Audi is it, that'll be requiring parts with that kinda milage.

You think a Golf is expensive to maintain, The Audi will make it look very cheap to run.

Audi A5. Its the price thats tempting, but when people say its expensive maintain is that in if something needs replacing?

Not overly pushed on power/size as long as its above 1.6 ltr. I was happy with the golf but the last year has required little bits and bobs fixing but recently the sensors broke and now the injector, I'm just fed up of it.

The Audi is 8yrs old and a good few miles under it's belt, you will be replacing parts due to wear and tear and just age.

Golf is easier look after and cheaper run. If you want a change but are happy with the golf, have you considered a GTI. When something goes wrong you'll end up thinking of it as an opportunity to upgrade the part rather than just fix it.

German cars were great for garages as always something else breaking and needing replacing.

Diesel cars will need motorway driving to keep them clean.

I've driven Audis for the last 15 years...A 4 year old A4 lasted for 6 years, followed by a 2 year old A3 (bigger engine than the A4) which I've had for the last 9 years. Both only began to cost more than std servicing charges when they hit 8-9 years old. And then they started to get expensive. I began looking to change to a newer Audi recently but was totally put off by a few consumer surveys & reviews which say that more recent Audis rate quite badly for breakdown rates & costs from 3 years on. Now flummoxed trying to decide what to buy next.

A Skoda Octavia is what you want @OP and at the poster above me not sure what to get next. Maybe even a vRS model of it. Skoda's have always been more reliable, simpler and better built than there VW equivalents because they are using tried and trusted mechanicals and electrics where as on an Audi or a VW it's all very new to market so yes things can go wrong.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
