Japanese Movie

    I have come to this good place as i'm trying to remember the name of a Japanese movie that was released back in 1997. The end scene had a boy, with a broken arm, and a girl sitting on the beach. Any ideas what it is called?

    Could be a Takeshi Kitano movie? Hana-bi was released in 1997.

    There are a few Takeshi Kitano films that end or focus on characters sitting around a beach - including Hana-Bi (97), A Scene at the Sea (91) and Kikujiro (99).

    The Eel (97) would be another candidate, although the characters are older there. As would Eureka (00) but that's a slightly later film.

    Unfortunately ,It's none of those movies you suggest. The story is centered around a boy's obsession with a girl, she loathes him and humiliates him, with nearly fatal consequences for him, but by the end she seems to revel in his devotion to her.

    Hmm! When you say 1997, is that its definite release year? Was it something you saw in the cinema or on TV that year in Ireland? Would definitely help narrow it down if it got an international release - it’d have to have some footprint if so!

    No I am not definite about that being the year it was released. I first saw it on RTE 2 around then. Anyway it must not have been any good if no one else remembers it!

    Edit: Sorry I just saw your description above about the relationship between the boy and girl so that probably rules Battle Royale out. Actually makes me think of Neon Genesis Evangelion to some degree.

    I thought of the Korean movie Bad Guy but that came out much later and doubt RTE 2 have shown that.
