Back Boiler upgrade

In my parents house built in 80's there is an open fire with back boiler in the sitting room and there used to be the same in the kitchen until they put in a stove. This heats the radiators in the house

I'm looking at options for them as they are getting older and don't want them struggling with coal buckets anymore. The house a few years back had cavity walls pumped ,double glazed windows put in and attic insulated but after BER rating was still only E1.

I'd like to keep the existing setup but maybe add a heat pump or wood pellet boiler or possibly oil(unsure if this is still a suitable option for the long term) to the heat system. I am unsure if this is possible and what the best way to go would be. Any advice appreciated
