I'm starting to look at replacing my 20+ year old boiler, vokera mynute 14e, I have a regular boiler system with copper tank and attic tank. I have 9 rads, bathroom and ensuite, no electric showers.

What sort of output kW should I be looking at, my old one is 15kw, is it advisable to go a little bigger, say 19 or 21 kW?

What brand are people getting installed?

    Thanks.

Sizing is commonly done like this:

    • 1 kW for small radiators.
    • 1.5 kW for an average-sized radiator.
    • 2 kW for large radiators.

Add them all up and include 3kW for DHW. If you have improved the insulation/windows of the house then you don't need to go larger and may get away with a slightly smaller unit. Mine is 28kW, but I could probably comfortably go with 25kW as I have installed triple glazing and additional insulation.

I was looking at the Viessmann Vitodens 100W but I'm not sure if the servicing is up to scratch as it's handled by one single third-party in Ireland, and as we know that means it's a closed game. I'd take input on this from other Irish owners if they have experience with servicing Viessmann units.

What do you mean the servicing? Any RGI registered contractor can service a Viessman.

There is one main distributor though if it becomes a warranty call but they are normally quite efficient.

We generally recommend Viessman's or Ideal Max boilers. Theres not normally a huge cost difference to go from a 15 to an 18 Ideal Max and they come with 10 years warranty.

I know that once you're RGI that you can service 'any' boiler, but I have a Vokera Mynute and I have had enough issues with servicing and repairs that I'll only go to Vokera directly for both. I got hit with 500 EUR of a bill once for parts which appeared to be second-hand and faulty.

    I've never serviced my boiler in the 20+ years. It's a 16e and not a 14e.

What sort of price are we talking for a supply and fit.
