Hopefully it's a good thing. The main nitrates battleground seems to be in the nertherlands

30 of the 75 Upper House wonder what they can do and with max 2 year to next election they will have to show what they are for in all areas if they are to be elected to rule.

55% largest the elections for a while

I wonder what the demographics of this elections are like compared to past elections. People coming out to vote that wouldn't normally can be fickle and evaporate as fast as they appeared. Particularly if the reality of being in power, or even having a seat at the table, doesn't tally with the aspirations of a campaign.

Not sure where you getting 30 seats from. 15 seems to be the prediction

though through the laws of unintended consequences it may force the ruling party to rely on the greens who want even bigger cuts

I'd be worried about a populist vote with ulterior motives. The last thing European farmers want is an anti-immigration policy, remember the backlash when Keelings farm took in immigrant essential workers to carry out farming work during the pandemic. There weren't many Irish complainants willing to take up the slack when it was put to them.

Indeed - and they seem to have mainly cannibalized the vote of small existing extreme right wing parties, so probably not a whole lot of change overall

Thought it said 30 in the article. They must be hoping they can be that party and not the greens but now will not have enough
