Sky switch: new customer deals

Hi there, Im sure this has been discussed, but I cant see it anywhere.

We are at the end of our contract with Sky for TV and Broadband, paying €55 per month, pretty happy with it. Contract in husbands name, he called them today to see what happens when contract expires, they said €70 per month is the best they can do. I see on the website they are offering 38 per month for broadband and TV, I figured I could sign up as a new customer and avail of that. But we cant be without internet; my husband WFH and relies on the internet. Is there a way to switch users seamlessly without losing internet? Do they need to come to the house if the box and dish are already in place from last year?

    Thanks!

The 38e is the base TV, less channels than you have currently and broadband. I swapped to it for a bit but it was missing all the Sky channels (Atlantic etc) and Channel 4 and Channel 4 is the one I was surprised not to have. There's no way to swap the broadband to your name without moving provider or cancelling down this one but you'd be without broadband for a bit waiting for it to be set up again. A family member managed to get Sky to resign at the same price for the next 12 months (55e) last month but to be honest I've never seen Sky resign broadband at the same price after 12 months before that so maybe she was lucky with the agent on the phone.

Any time I switched BB provider it was almost seamless. You might be without BB for perhaps an hour. Usually the new provider will send you the new router and an estimated day for the changeover. When the Sky BB stops working you plug in the new router and it should fire up. The new provider should notify Sky that you have switched but it's no harm to confirm with Sky. I wouldn't put it past them to continue charging you for a service you don't have. They will charge for the part of the month you have used.

I shop around every year (for all utilities) as there are huge savings to be had. Also when talking to the likes of Sky if you mention you are swapping to XYZ provider at a certain rate miraculously they can suddenly match that price. If not, switch. It's fairly painless, particularly to your wallet.

The days of customer loyalty are long gone. These days many service providers rely on customer inertia (laziness) and will gladly screw you for all they can get. At the end of the day they are businesses not charities. A few minutes checking on the likes of Switcher or powertoswitch can save you hundreds each year.
