Solar PV and air to water heat pump combos

I have an 11kwh solar PV system (we have 3-phase power) and we often generate a decent amount of excess power.

Rather than feeding it back I'm looking at other uses and considering an air to water heat pump. I'd be curious to hear from others who have considered this route and reasons for/against it.

I'd be interested to the answers to any of these questions as well:

    • Were you able to integrated it with your solar system so that it kicks on when excess is being generated? I have a myEnergi Eddi and Harvi installed which currently allow me to do that for the hot water tank immersion.
    • Is the air to water system noisy?
    • What kind of daily energy consumption are you seeing at the moment from the air to water unit?
    • What happens when electricity supply is cut? My solar system is taken offline when the grid is down for safety of ESB repair staff. I guess houses with air to water heating are left without heating when the grid is down is that right?
