Wood Pellets vs Oil

Does anyone know what 3 tonnes of wood pellets compares to in oil litreage? Cost of pellets is gone through the roof so I am thinking… would condensing oil boiler be cheaper to run at present? Had considered air to water but current electricity rates are off putting. Air to water heat pumps can’t be cheap to run at present?! Any advice welcomed.

For pellets it's around 15MJ/kg to 18MJ/kg, or 4.7 to 5.2kW/kg.

For diesel fuel it's around 44MJ/kg, or 10.7kW/L.

Kerosene is around 46MJ/kg, or 9.7kW/L.

(Note the use of kW/kg's for solid fuels and kW/L for liquids)

10-10-20 huge thanks for your answer. I am afraid I am lost… I know nothing about heating or heat measurement. I think I was told at some stage that 3 tonnes of pellets was equivalent to 1800 litres of oil. Can’t remember the exact figures. We’re just trying to weigh up costs to see how wood pellets rate against oil right now price/value wise. Any further help in this regard very much appreciated.

Was 550€ per tonne. Min order 3 tonnes. Gone down €20 per tonne this week. Are you paying similar?
