Solar servicing

    We have solar panels for hot water (not PV) and it's due a service. However the crowd that installed it (on behalf of the developer when the house was built) are absolutely useless, and I would prefer never to have to deal with them again.

    The system has a control panel in the hall that appears to be their own tech, there's a PIN you need to access certain features that I believe only they have. The system is connected up to a smart rad that is used to offload any excess heat from the panels.

    So I have 2 questions:

    • Can any solar company do the service, or do I need them?
    • If I wanted to replace their control panel with a different one, are solar hot water systems standard? Could another company come in and just replace the control panel with one of their own and things just continue to work? Could I buy an after market one and install it myself? Or would the work be more substantial here?

    As its solar for water, Do you know if its the standard solar tube or a thermodynamic panel. (the thermodynamic panels are more like heat pumps)

    The solar tubes are pretty straight forward, couple of sensors and a pump basically.

    Service my own, you can rent the gear from a few places. very straightforward.
