You should still take out insurance on the property though.

You may have trouble getting life or health insurance with that name.

If it's a modest plot, it shouldn't be more than about €200 to have it opened.

Why would it be an easier life? in the 80s because of my ex-husband, I knew a few who in oddball situations bought two-roomed cottages with only an outdoor loo, damp and didn't have the money to do the place up, unless you have a plan and money its not an easy life.

Methinks the OP works in insurance rather than abandoning it altogether.
