Buying - Recommendations Please - Family Car + Commuting

    Hi,


    It is time to replace the family car - VW Jetta. 2012 auto diesel with 250km and a fauly mechantronic" (story for another day)

    Apart from being a family car, primary use is to commute from South Wicklow to Dublin 4 days a week.

    Key requirements:

    • Budget 25k to 30k. Would go above 30k for the right car but would really prefer to be closer to 25k.
    • Room for two kids
    • Automatic
    • Economical to run. I am assuming Diesel still can't be beat in that regard given c150km driving per day?
    • Comfortable driver seat/position for the commute (lower priority)

    Saloons suit our family needs but that style of car is practically non existent in recent years. My wife is the main user of the car so she doesn't really want anything bigger so that rules out a Superb or Passat say.

    If the Jetta was still being made, I'd probably be happy to go for another one again but I guess the Skoda Octavia is the next nearest.


    Any other thoughts on economical autos similar size as Jetta? Open to something like a Skoda Karoq or Seat Ateca shape but unsure of how economical they would really be?
