    Hi guys,

Looking into a change and I am considering a BMW 320D M Sport. Could anyone give me some pointers to look out for or some things to stay away from?

All I know about them is From what a mate of mine told me was to try get a 2015+ model as the "Timing Chain" issue was apparently fixed in later models. Anyone know anything further about this?

    Thanks for any info.

Timing chain issues affected the n47 Diesel engine that was used in various guises till mid 2014 when it was replaced by the B47. There are plenty of stories of chains being replaced , most early cars have had that done if needed and many garages seem to be able to do for around 1k to 1.5k. There were various fixes applied and others will tell you they have varying degrees of success and have been covered at length here. I have had a 2012 and currently have a 2014 3 series , sold the 2012 with 120k miles on clock and was fine, 2014 @ 105k miles. Both have an annual or 10k miles service which ever comes first

Thanks for the insight, besides timing chains sounds like they just require regular maintenance like any other car.

    Thanks again.

Just remember regular maintenance will be far more expensive on a BMW than something like a Toyota/Honda etc.
