How’s things , I’m looking at buying a car off a guy in NI. Regarding VRT I need a proof of registration in NI before 1 Jan 2021. Just wondering what type would be acceptable to complete VRT as he only bought the car last year but claims it’s been in NI for years? Thanks

Does the V5 not list the name and address of current owner and date of transfer of ownership to that owner. I understand if that is before the Brexit qualifying date and a NI address that should suffice. I purchased in NI a year ago and that worked for me

He only bought the car last year you see so doesn’t qualify for before 1 Jan 2021.

    Ferry ticket, insurance, tax, etc.

I think if the car has a NI reg then its fine, but if the reg is UK it would be a problem.

If it has been MOT'd prior to 2021 in the North, can request a copy of that from department up North. They are generally very quick on a response to mails and never any issue giving it out. VRT accept that then

For your own info, to rule the car out at an early stage, do a MOT history check on the gov.uk site. If it has listings for MOTs in mainland UK, they’ll show on the history check, if it was tested in NI it won’t show.
