Has something changed with recruitment agencies recently?

I am currently between contracts and have started a job search but I am finding things seem to be different. It used to be relatively simple in that a company would approach agencies which would then go and do a search for people. What seems to be happening now is that there are agencies contacting me about other agencies' jobs. I am used to the repeat of job posting by agencies and multiple agencies with the same role but this seems new. Lots of UK companies seem to be involved with staff who don't seem to well trained and with English as a second language.

    Is there something new happening?

Lots of MNCs have slowed down. Fewer jobs in the market right now.

But recruiters still have targets for no of calls etc each day. And they have to talk to you about something.

I experienced that before this is different. There is now layers of agencies for a job. It nearly seems like there is a new way of posting jobs to agents where they don't have direct contact with the company hiring. Lots of UK based companies that seem to have mostly Indian staff.
