Can anyone here advise why a large roundabout is being built on the N24 just east of the junction where it meets the R513 (Caherconlish turn)?

And when will we learn that putting roundabouts on National routes is..... idiotic?

I reckon it's because if you are coming off the R513 and turning right(in the direction of Tipperary town),it is impossible at times to turn right due to the high volume of traffic heading towards limerick. This would be the case especially at rush hour in the morning where traffic can build up on the R513 trying to get onto the N24

It's the N24 Bearys Cross improvement scheme. The current junction is an accident black spot and will be closed when the roundabout and new link road are finished.

See the new proposed junction layout below. The junction will be moved further east towards Boher. A four legged roundabout will be built with one leg providing a new access to the existing Murroe-Boher GAA grounds.

Drove it this weekend. Tbh, I never was aware that was a particularly dangerous or busy junction but driving it several times this weekend, it seemed like there was a constant stream of traffic coming off the Caherconlish Road onto the N24 that made me think the new roundabout must be a godsend for that traffic, particularly those turning right as that must have been a near impossible manoeuvre for them during constantly N24 traffic.

I suppose the next dodgy junction is the similar Doon/Cappamore one a few miles furtherdown the N24. Not sure if that will get similar treatment anytime soon....

This appeared out of nowhere very quickly. It flew up.

Much better for Cork to Limerick and back, of which a lot of traffic uses this route. The right hand turn was always awful, despite good sightlines.
